David Ferrer: 'Rafael Nadal was my mirror'
In an interview to ATP ES David Ferrer commented on how Big Four and especially Rafael Nadal made him more ambitious and a better player. "They had a lot of ambition. Rafa Nadal was like a mirror for me. Although he was younger and he headed into the tour later, I learned from him. Winning a tournament and coming back to win it. Leaving the French Open, going to Queen's and come back to win... it made me understand that when you win a tournament it's not enough but you have to follow. It helped me to be world No. 3 and having the consistency I had. If I did not see that from those players I would have looked at other players who I saw in the beginning, I will not tell the names", said Ferrer.
Wouldn't he have won a Grand Slam in another era? "I cannot head into that. If I were not such a good player I would not still have won a Grand Slam. I cannot head into something that I do not know. I can only say that I did not win a Grand Slam because I could not do it. I tried to give the best but I do not change that. You have tennis players who won a Grand Slam and only played one or two ATP Finals. I played seven, I was the third or third player in Spain history in winning X matches, the No. 12 in the world to have won X amount of matches... My tennis life was very good. For many years in my career, I felt very well with myself."
