Dominic Thiem: 'Indian Wells win over Roger Federer is the past'
Dominic Thiem believes that beating Roger Federer in a three-set Indian Wells final can give him a confidence boost for the rest of the season. Speaking to Tennis Channel, the Austrian said: "This title changes a lot, I have a Masters 1000 under my belt, it's so tough to achieve and not many people have made it. Also in Indian Wells which is almost a fifth Slam, such a famous tournament but it's the past I am focused on this tournament and trying to use this confidence to play well here."
On his straight-set win over Martin Klizan in the opening round, Thiem added: "I felt good, I have been here for over a week, I played very well but it's tough from the first match on, he had already won a match. He put a lot of good returns, a lot of pressure from the baseline and ending the second set 6-4 is very good. I am looking forward to the next challenge."
On how it feels to compete on clay compared to Indian Wells and Miami, Thiem concluded: "It's my home, different from other states but I enjoyed there and I enjoy everywhere, including in Europe and when I compete here."
Analyzing his loss to Lajovic, Thiem said: "There are some things that are strange for me here, the court is slow, the serve is not a big advantage. He was better, I had less chances and I did not convert them. It's okay, I played bad enough to lose. I am very motivated for my next tournament in Barcelona. I will play in doubles with Melzer in Rome too, then we will see what happens in summer."
