Rafael Nadal is favorite to win clay-court titles, says Toni

In an interview, Toni Nadal commented on his nephew Rafael getting ready to play on clay. The 32-year-old has been training on a consistent basis in the last three weeks in Mallorca. "He is hitting the ball very well and he is prepared to have a great clay-court season", said Toni. "He is the ultimate favourite to win the upcoming tournaments. He has been having great clay-court seasons since 2005. Winning Monte Carlo, Madrid and French player would make it a great season."

On Jaume Munar's progress, Toni added: "I see that Munar can cause some upsets because he makes things difficult to his opponents. Munar is going through a growth process and he is one of the guys who progressed the most."

Angelique Kerber is the first player committed to competing at the Mallorca Open that takes place from 17 to 23 June 2019. "I want to play my best tennis in Mallorca to come at Wimbledon well. Hopefully, everything will be different now and that I am on the court for more hours", said Kerber who lost in the last year's tournament first round.

Toni Nadal said: "I hope this year everything changes and Kerber wins the Mallorca Open. For our tournament, it's a proudness and satisfaction to count on Angelique Kerber, the defending Wimbledon winner and chosen as the best Germany's athlete in 2018. The Mallorca Open is a tournament that tries to improve every year on all the aspects, although holding a tournament at this level is complicated. Costs are high and it's not easy.
