The Flair of Benoit Paire hits Barcelona wins first round over Londero

He's gone naturally brown, blond-topped and then brown again in hairstyle. He is well known for his thick-cropped beard and often than not turned up shirt collars. Benoit Paire may have had a fight with his tennis racquets back in 2018 at the Citi Open in Washington, D.C. when Marco Baghdatis was winning. he had gotten fined, threw racquets midcourt and acted out more like a toddler upon losing than a professional tennis player. He has also come back from knee injuries to be a victory on the court.

The clay court season is upon us and many were shocked by Rafael Nadal's loss in straight sets to Fabio Fognini at Monte Carlo. While Benoit Paire was well bothered and overly shocked when he was passed over for a wild card to play in Monaco, a tournament he's played for seven straight years. Jaume Munar, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Felix Auger-Aliassime had all gotten the wild card tribute; so it left Paire to play the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakesh.

Paire got his karma and just desserts back in many ways are defeating two Frenchmen: Pierre-Hugues Herbert and then Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the round of 16 and semi-final rounds at the Grand Prix Hassan. The bearded Frenchman wouldn't stop there by going the distance in Marrakesh against Jaume Munar. He had gotten a wild card instead of him in Monte Carlo and then made the final against Pablo Andujar who previously defeated him in the final of the Marbella Challenger. Everything was coming up great when Paire won the Marrakesh title from Andujar in the final. He was the defending champ but missed his chance but Paire had the opportunity to win a title after coming up absent in four years.

The Frenchman's move onto the Barcelona clays and first time up won over the Argentine Juan Ignacio Londero. Seven aces were on the bearded Frenchman's racket and he blasted nearly 90% of his first serves as wins. He was able to move Londero around the court to open up a space for getting that winning shot. He was also on point for his down-the-line in his repertoire along with those well hated top spin drop shots.

But besides the losses in his career Benoit Paire might never forget the time he defeated Novak Djokovic at last year's 2018 Miami Open in the second round. "It was a good match, good serve, of course, Novak wasn't playing like he was before. I hope he'll be 100% soon. I like this player, he's a nice guy...I'm missing him on tour...I'm happy to win against him..." Paire said in an interview after the Miami match. The bearded Frenchman's next challenge will be the Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta who Paire has won over half of the matches they've played together. It will all be a thriller because when Paire is on the court, anything at any time can happen.
