'Young guys will come up when Federer, Nadal, Djokovic retire' - Massu
In an interview to El Universo, Nicolas Massu praised the Big Three players' dominance. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have won 51 Grand Slam titles combined and keep being at the top. 'They are players who marked an important difference, being always in the final stages', Massu said. 'They made history. It's difficult that such little group of players wins almost everything over all the last years. It does not mean that the new generations are farther away than the previous ones; these champions just broke through and it's difficult to beat them. They stayed at the top for a lot of years. When the guys who are at the top will retire, the new generations will come. Including Alexander Zverev. I like a lot Denis Shapovalov. There are also Stefanos Tsitsipas, Félix Auger-Aliassime.'
Commenting on the South American tennis, Massu added: 'It's through a transition. You may not have so many players as 15 years ago, but it does not mean that it's better or worse than before. Times end and I think in a couple of years the South American tennis will be back to have the number of players we had before.'
Massu finally praised Juan Martin del Potro: 'Del Potro keeps the South America flag over the world in these moments. You have to use it at best. We needed a player like him. It's important that the younger players of South America see him and say that if he can, others can as well. At any time they will win a Grand Slam.'
