ATP Madrid: Dominic Thiem and Diego Schwartzman lose doubles final

Austrian Dominic Thiem and Argentina's Diego Schwartzman have once again fallen just short of winning a title together.

Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau were too much for Thiem and Schwartzman in the Madrid Masters final as the well-known doubles pair claimed a 6-2 6-3 win.

Rojer and Tecau earned the first break of the match in the fourth game to take a 3-1 first-set lead but got broken back immediately in the following game.

However, Rojer and Tecau kept their focus as they claimed back-to-back breaks in the sixth and eighth game to seal the opener.

Thiem and Schwartzman saved a break point in the second game of the second set to stop Rojer and Tecau's run but lost their serve once again in the fourth game.

However, Rojer and Tecau once again kept their focus as they broke Thiem and Schwartzman in the eighth game before they successfully served out for the match in the following game.

Rojer and Tecau won 83 percent of their first serve points, realized 5-of-10 of their break point and saved 1-of-3 of Thiem and Schwartzman's break point chances on their way to winning their first title of the season.

Rojer and Tecau now have won two Madrid titles together as they also won it all at the tournament in 2016.

Thiem and Schwartzman, who were playing together for the second time this season, also ended runners-up in Buenos Aires earlier this year.
