Marketa Vondrousova, in the footsteps of Petra Kvitova
Marketa Vondrousova, nineteen years-old, can be considered the future of Czech women's tennis. Petra Kvitova's heir, although the two countrywomen have different skills, both from a physical and technical point of view.
Merketa exploded in 2017, when, at the age of seventeen years-old, she won her first career title, the Ladies Open Biel Bienne. In 2018 she made the second round at the Australian Open and the fourth round at the US Open, which to date is her best result in a Grand Slam event.
Her 2019 started off on the right foot. After the second round at the Australian Open, Vondrousova made the final in Budapest, where she was defeated by Alison Van Uytvanck. At Indian Wells and Miami she reached the quarter-finals, where she was eliminated respectively by Elina Svitolina and Karolina Pliskova, to then reach and lose the Istanbul final against Petra Martic.
Her progress is happening quickly and progressively, especially at this stage of the season. Her tennis is fluid and harmonious; her way of moving, coordinating and striking so easily and naturally can already be considered an important prerogative, especially considering that we are talking about a girl of nineteen years-old, who can and must still make improvements. Her slice backhand combines elegance and perfect timing and can be considered her best shot.
It should be noted that her style of play adapts well even to the different speeds of the surfaces, making her an opponent that is potentially difficult to face for her rivals. 2019 must be a year of important progress for her, where she can build her career; something she has been doing very well in recent weeks.
