Roger Federer: 'I had doubts about coming back to the French Open'

In an interview to France 2, Roger Federer admitted he doubted about his comeback to the French Open after his last appearance dated back to 2015. The Swiss player said: "I have been around a lot, 20 years ago I made my first appearance on the main draw and ten years ago I won my title. Many people thought I would have never been back, and I was not sure about it either, so that created some nerves before the match. I was very tense. If I lost in the first round, it would have been crazy", smiled Federer.

"I have not been back in the last three years, I was here in '16 just for one day. Central Court is getting a revamp, next year there will be a roof and I have seen there is a new botanical court as well, the Simonne-Mathieu court, so it's gonna be special. No, I am waiting to see how it's gonna feel with the crowd filling the grounds."

In an interview to L'Equipe Rafael Nadal said: "I try to be careful about what I eat, but not as much as my nutritionist and my team would like to, and over the years I became aware of how important eating well is. Years ago, in my hotel room, I used to eat Nutella and potatoes."

His training regime changed too: "Now I train less than before, and they told me I trained eight hours a day when I started, then at 14-15 years, it became five hours. Let's say I put an intensity that other players are not used to."

"More than anything else, I would like to always be seen as a nice person. If people remember me that way, it would make much happier than if they remembered me as a player. I live the life I dreamed as a kid."
