Roger Federer will not play French Open many times in future - Forget

In an interview to Le Parisien, the French Open Tournament Director Guy Forget commented on the Roger Federer's comeback to the French Open. Forget said: "Roger has the best Major titles record in the game history. It has been three years since when he last came to Paris. Everyone is well aware that he will not play many times here again in future. He is world No. 3, though, he is extremely competitive. If he manages to go through the first rounds without spending too much energy, he can easily be in the final. We want to see a good Roger Federer, but he will have to deal with the new generations of the game: Thiem, Auger-Aliassime, Tsitsipas, Lucas Pouille... It's the old guard against the new generation. It's shocking that we are still waiting, especially with Rafa who has won here 11 times and Novak Djokovic who has just won three Grand Slams in a row."

What does Federer bring to the sport? "Almost a gamestyle of another era. When we look at Ken Rosewall and Rod Laver images, decades ago, it seems it's the same technique. In a time where we speak of big physical players, thanks to his movement and technique, he plays more aggressive tennis than someone else and he is so competitive at 38 years. For the young Parisians, who saw him only on television, having the possibility to have him in the French Open is amazing."

Federer will open his run against the Italian Lorenzo Sonego who had said, just in Rome last week, that his dream was to face the Basel native.
