Serena Williams star at the French Open?

A knee injury forced Serena Williams to miss the WTA Premier 5 in Rome, as well as the 30th challenge against her sister Venus, a rematch of the 1998 Roman challenge. The American, who has not played from the Miami Open, is still trying to find her way back of the court, but still, her fans will have to wait.

The appointment will be at the French Open, where, as assured by Serena, she should be there. But in what physical condition?

"I stayed out longer than I expected but I did everything possible to stay in shape. I will miss the supporters and not have the opportunity to compete in one of my favorite tournaments. I will focus on rehabilitation and I look forward to seeing you all at the French Open and next year in Rome."

It will be interesting to see if, without physical problems, Serena's athletic condition in Paris will be better than what was seen between Indian Wells and Miami, where she still seemed far from the shape shown last year between Wimbledon and the US Open, also due to two physical problems which forced her to left the scene too soon.

This year, fans, insiders and the media have had few opportunities to see Williams on the court. At the Australian Open, where she reached the quarter-finals, losing to Karolina Pliskova, at Indian Wells, where she reached the third round, withdrawing in the second set against Garbine Muguruza, and the third round in Miami, where she retired before the challenge with Qiang Wang.

She didn't take the court for two months. Of course, to play and be a mom at the same time is not an easy goal, but Serena has shown, already last season, that she can still be competitive, reaching two Slam finals.

Clearly, her long-term goal now will be to remain competitive and healthy, in order to reduce injuries and reach the long-awaited 24 Majors record. In Paris, she will have to try to get at least 80% of her level, to have chances, but the impression is that, at least for 2019, her best opportunities will come between Wimbledon and the US Open.
