Andy Murray intends to play doubles with Feliciano Lopez at Queen’s Club

Former world No. 1 Andy Murray is set to return to competitive action at the Queen’s Club as he intends to play doubles at the tournament with 2016 French Open men’s doubles champion Feliciano Lopez, per Michal Samulski.

Murray, who recently turned 32 years old, underwent a hip resurfacing surgery at the end of January in London following his first round exit at the Australian Open. 

During an emotional pre Australian Open press conference, Murray said he hoped to say a goodbye to tennis at Wimbledon but acknowledged that the Australian Open might be the last tournament of his career. 

However, after undergoing a successful second hip surgery in January it was highly unlikely that Murray would recover in time for Wimbledon but the two-time Wimbledon champion left the door open for a possible comeback. 

The Queen’s tournament organizers left one wildcard available in the case Murray opts to play at the tournament, where he is a record five-time champion. 

As expected, Murray won’t play singles in Queen’s but entering the doubles event is still a great sign that the Scotsman’s recovery is going great so far. 

It remains to be seen how will Murray perform in his first tournament in six months.
