Ashleigh Barty: It’s a completely new situation I am in

World No.1 Ashleigh Barty recently spoke about her career-threatening mental health battle in the past as she braces herself to enter Wimbledon as a favourite.

"It's a completely new situation," said the French Open champion. Less than 5 years ago, Barty quit tennis after failing to cope with the tag of being the next big thing in tennis when she won the Wimbledon junior title at the age of 15.

We went through ebbs and flows in that year in 2014," Barty said. "I'm not going to go into details of how I felt and what I had to go through, but there was a point when I think I knew I had to stop and, when I made the decision, it was easy.”

"Everyone is different, everyone is unique. I can't sit here and tell people how they should figure out their way through their life. It's their decision. For me, it was just being aware of my mental health. Having a discussion with people was the best thing that came out of it."

Barty further said that she is unsure of how she would be handling the pressure. I don't know, we'll have to wait and see," Barty said.

"I feel like I'm playing good tennis but it's such an open field if I'm being brutally honest. For me, there are so many potential new situations at Wimbledon. It's essential I go out to prepare the best I can."
