Stan Wawrinka can win a Grand Slam again, says coach Magnus Norman
In an interview, Stan Wawrinka's coach Magnus Norman was asked if the Swiss player will be able to work as a coach again. The Swede said: "Absolutely. It's not that we really speak about it, but he is used to playing again. In Australia, the day after, he was still painful and tired. Now he is much more relaxed and he does not spend too much energy when he plays matches. That's a big difference. Stan is smarter and moves better. And he hits the ball stronger at five or ten km/h more. He needs wins like this one, so he believes in himself. The energy and intensity he puts on court make me very positive."
On Wawrinka's improvements, Norman added: "Stan played already much better at the end of the last year. Ending the season in autumn helped him, he had more time for everything: he went on holidays early and he could start preparing for the following season earlier. He had never been able to have such a long preparation. Over the last years, he was in the London ATP Finals and he once played the Davis Cup final. The recovery and preparation were too short."
Asked how many years Wawrinka has left in tennis, Norman replied: "We never speak about his age. Stan lost almost a year due to his surgery. What matters for him is that he is healthy, motivated and professional on and off the court. I do not see any sign that he could soon have had enough about tennis."
