Stan Wawrinka: Roger Federer is the best player I faced on grass
Who is the strongest player Stan Wawrinka has ever faced in his career? The Swiss player answered this question in an interview with The Telegraph. "I would say, Roger Federer. Probably on grass," said Wawrinka, who lost to Federer in the 2015 Wimbledon quarter-finals. Asked about the best match of his career, Wawrinka replied: "The French Open final against Novak Djokovic in 2015. To beat the world no. 1 in a grand-slam final was something really amazing."
Asked what's the best city he has ever visited, Wawrinka replied: "There are many cities that I really enjoy on the tour but I will pick New York. Not only during the US Open but the week before too. There is always something to do."
The best place he has ever played tennis in? "I have been lucky enough to play in all the big stadiums in every big city. I think it depends a lot also on the atmosphere. I really enjoy the Centre Court [Rod Laver Arena] in Melbourne for the Australian Open. I think the fans are something really different there. It’s really special to play in front of them and I have some great memories."
Asked what is the best sportsman in the world, Wawrinka concluded: "I cannot pick one, there are too many athletes. I enjoy watching amazing athletes in every sport: in soccer, tennis and boxing. There are so many, it’s tough to make a ranking."
