Taylor Fritz: 'I'm not pleased with my serve, will have to work on it'
In the battle of the youngsters born in 1997, Taylor Fritz ousted Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 7-6 in an hour and 44 minutes for the second semi-final of the season. The American landed only 45% of the first serve in and hit six aces and seven double faults, having to navigate through the encounter without his primary weapon. In the end, he fended off seven out of eight break points and delivered two breaks from nine opportunities, prevailing in the crucial moments to win four points more than the Pole and reach the last four. Fritz had to save seven break chances in the opening set, staying focused and securing a break in game ten to grab the opener 6-4. Breaking Hubert in the eighth game of the second set, Taylor failed to serve out for the match at 5-3, keeping Hurkacz in contention before taking the tie break 7-5 to seal the deal in straight sets.
"I'm happy to get through and score another win. There was wind out there and we both couldn't play our best tennis. It was scrappy tennis and it could have gone either way, so I'm happy to prevail. I have toughed out two matches but I failed to serve out for the win in two consecutive days, I'm disappointed about that and Paul Annacone is waiting for me out there on the practice court to work on that issue. I had some good and bad things going around in the last couple of days but at least I'm in the semis. The serve today wasn't at the level from the opening two encounters and we have to work on it because I can't win many matches while serving like against Hubert, he is an incredible player and I'm pleased to get through."
