Conchita Martinez says Rafael Nadal's exploit is underrated: 'He's a crack'

Conchita Martinez, former World No. 2 and 1994 Wimbledon Champion, has told Septimo Game her opinion about Rafael Nadal, and disclosed her view of the public’s consideration for her countryman, “The truth is that people get used to it [exploits] at times and think it is normal. But it is very difficult to even win a Grand Slam, imagine 12 times Roland Garros. He's out of the ordinary, he's a crack. What Rafa is doing is admirable. It's good for him to play on clay due to the ball bounce because it's going a bit slower, and then playing five sets against him if he's okay, it's dangerous.”

The actual coach of World No. 3 Karolina Pliskova has also talked about the transition from clay game to the grass one, “It's all completely different. You can not slide. The movements are different. You have to be a lot more flexed. You must shorten the blows, the swing. Here the mouth itches and slides, so if you have a long enough weapon and you strike late, you probably do it in a bad way. The times are very different. In clay, the ball throws something at you and you have time to hit, here if you can not get that, you will not hit in a good way. It is the most difficult transition between surfaces.”

“There are many more points played at the end of the court,” Martinez added, comparing the present of lawn tennis to that she knew during her time on the tour. “They [the points] are longer. I do not know if the courts or the balls have slowed down the tennis, but it is true that long points are seen.”
