Facing Roger Federer would be amazing, says Matteo Berrettini
Matteo Berrettini looks forward to starting Wimbledon. The Italian player will open his run on Tuesday against Aljaz Bedene. Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Berrettini said: "I am interested in seeing how it will go after a one-year experience as I grew up especially mentally. I want to see how best of five sets matches go. I have good feelings. I got great results lately. One year ago I would have never thought to be on the top 20 and win a grass title too. That gives me confidence and awareness in my weapons but it was not that easy. I went through many tough and close matches, I put my soul to win titles, every success is caused by the much work and my team. I should learn to enjoy myself more. It's right to be ambitious and want to improve consistently. Last year on grass I was not so comfortable on grass, instead in Calcutta, India, when I played there, something happened. And from Stuttgart it went well straight forward."
With Borna Coric's withdrawal, Berrettini moved in Roger Federer's spot. The 23-year-old could meet the Basel native in the fourth round. "It would be amazing also because it would mean I reach the fourth round. Jokes aside, playing against Roger in Wimbledon is an experience I would tell to my children in the future", concluded Berrettini, who played his last match in Halle losing to David Goffin in the semifinals.
