Jack Sock: I think my injury was potentially biggest blessing in disguise

American tennis star Jack Sock is drawing positives from his six-month layoff. 

After a breakthrough season on the tour in 2017, the American struggled to continue his rise in 2018. 

The 26-year-old ended his 2018 campaign with a disappointing 9-22 record. 

Sock then claimed he motivated to put in the hard work in the offseason and get back on the right track this year. 

Sock's comeback season started with a setback as the American tore two ligaments in his thumb in a practice session at Melbourne Park before losing in the Australian Open first round Alex Bolt.

Sock's season didn't start on the way he was hoping for but now he realizes a lengthy break might have been just what he needed. 

Former world No. 8 Sock is set to return to action at this week's Atlanta Open.

"2018 was a year to forget. January was a month to forget here. It’s never great to get injured. It’s very unfortunate to get injured obviously, but I think it was potentially the biggest blessing in disguise for my career,” Sock told the ATP website. “So to be able to take those months and get a new mentality, enjoy playing the sport again and get excited about playing and come back out, I’ll be ready to fire.”
