Kevin Anderson: 'Beating Roger Federer, Nadal, Djokovic is very tough'
In an interview, Kevin Anderson commented on what makes Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal on the big stage. The South African player said: "It is more challenging because it’s five sets. It definitely helps more experienced players. There have been so few guys in the finals of Grand Slams in the last 15 years, they have so much experience in those situations that they feel very comfortable. It’s very tough to beat them specifically at Grand Slams."
Speaking to The New York Times, Anderson reflected on his approach to Wimbledon as a defending finalist. Last year he defeated John Isner in an epic semifinal match before losing to Novak Djokovic championship clash. “Obviously, I know that it will be very different from last year. I’m sure there will be some special memories going back there, but, first and foremost, it’s a new year and a new opportunity. It doesn’t really matter what happened last year when you’re on the match courts.”
On Wimbledon introducing the tie-break on 12-all in the fifth set, Anderson concluded: “I think it’s a rule moving in the right direction. I don’t think it makes much of a difference at 6-6 or 12-12, but I understand why they want to keep a little bit of history. It only affects a very small percentage of matches, but for those it does, I think there is a bit more protection for the players on the court, as well as scheduling other players afterwards.”
