Little by little we are taking Roger Federer, Djokovic, Nadal away - Jarry

In an interview to EFE, as quoted by El Mundo Deportivo, Nicolas Jarry spoke about the key for younger players to prevail over the older ones like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The Chilean player said: "It does not happen over a fortnight. They are unbelievable for how they are. Everything what's outside tennis improved, aspects like the recovery and all this. It influences so that they can play for a longer time and to be around for some more years but hopefully us younger guys will be able to take them away and little by little we are doing it. Some of us beat them sometimes, we just need to be stronger mentally."

Asked if he has any reference point, Jarry replied: "No. I watch everyone and I try to take who can help my game, something from each one. But to compete with them is unbelievable after seeing them on TV. Sharing and speaking with them is definitely special."

What's next for Jarry? "I want to continue this way. It would be very good to end better than I did the past year. That would mean to raise on the rankings. I reached two finals and I won one. I will complete the year in Hamburg tournament and then in the Games with Chile. After that, Cincinnati, Winston Salem and US Open tournaments."

Jarry was not the only Chilean to have won a career-title as Christian Garin triumphed in Munich and Houston earlier this year. "It's a very good year for Chilean tennis. We reached five finals and won three titles and that means a lot. There are not many countries like this. We have a big tradition int he sport. After that Fernando Gonzalez and Nicolas Massu retired, the situation got worse but we are trying to make it get to the top again so that more kids play it."
