Pat Cash: Nick Kyrgios is a talent and is entertaining
Former Wimbledon Champion Pat Cash recently spoke about fellow Australian Nick Kyrgios, saying that he is like the male version of Anna Kournikova.
Cash questioned whether Kyrgios would ever be known for his on court results. "I think Nick is a talent. People will want to watch because you don't know if he is going to hit the ball in, hit the ball at the umpire, kill the opponent, kill an umpire or kill a racquet or whatever it is going to be. But people also watch car crashes," Cash said.
"You look at the side of the road and you can't help but watch ... but I don't want him to be super talented and watched just for the sake of being a spectacle, like Anna Kournikova - highly paid but never really doing anything and never really getting there. Is he a male Kournikova? Kournikova did win a grand slam in doubles, but you know what I mean? He is like a show around it but never quite reaches his potential."
He further added, “It is entertaining. He [Kyrgios] is right - you do want to watch but he is a bit of a car crash at times. He is just so talented.”
Taking on Nadal in the Second Round at Wimbledon, this match promises to be a cracker following their recent fallout. He [Nadal] has got a pretty tough match against a guy who last time they played here [in 2014], hit 35 aces and destroyed Rafa Nadal and I was sitting there with my jaw open ... going this kid is unbelievable," Cash said.
"He beat Rafa from the baseline, he beat Rafa from the net, he out-served him. Here he is, he has got another opportunity years later which you would think he would be a much better player. He doesn't mind the big matches. It's the other matches that he is supposed to win that he is almost like: 'I'll pretend I don't care in this match'. When you have got nothing to lose, he is much better."
