Roger Federer is an artist, historical athlete - Tennis writer
The Federer Code has been one of the most popular books in the last year. In an interview to Futura News the book's author Stefano Semeraro spoke about how the idea came up to him. Why did he publish it when Federer is still on the tour and not maybe once he ends his career? "The time is a good one on an editorial note. And it's fair that the people can read it now while he is still playing. Once his career ends we will do a second edition featuring full statistics. It was supposed to be released before, then in January 2018 he won his 20th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. We obviously postponed it."
Is Federer really a code? "The title recalls Codice da Vinci and to the fact that Federer is a tennis artist, a historical athlete. Code also means something you have to figure out: you cannot say that he is a mistery because we know him well, but the portrait is a complete one and it features the character, environment and main rivals."
How do you manage not to say something banal? "It's difficult. You have to avoid the praises and focus on the overall view of the person. I chose not to praise him but to tell about him with freshness, like if a camera followed him during his career. I'd rather put the history as a highlight than wins."
Meanwhile Federer himself commented on their plan for his Foundation: "Children who come across insurmountable barriers at an early age will never be able to reach their full potential. This is my wish for all children: that they can be healthy and develop their skills accordingly, enabling them to enjoy a happy childhood."
