Upgrade time for Australian Open 2020: New high-quality surfaces

Australia’s major tournaments, including Australian Open, will have their courts’ surfaces replaced by GreenSet Worldwide, the new official court supplier of Tennis Australia, starting from 2020.

“It is with great pleasure that we welcome GreenSet Worldwide as our new official court surface supplier”, said Craig Tiley, the CEO of Tennis Australia.

GreenSet is owned by the brother of one of the youngest French Open winners, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario.

Craig Tiley counts on Javier Sanchez Vicario and his company’s great reputation in the tennis world. “Both Javier (Sanchez Vicario) and GreenSet are very well known in the tennis community, and as tennis surface specialists they have a long and successful track record of installation experience at major events around the world”, said Tiley.

GreenSet is 50 years old company that assured quality courts for events like London’s ATP Finals, the Paris ATP Masters, the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and the Davis Cup Finals held in Madrid.

Moreover, Tiley mentioned that the surfaces will remain mostly the same, but some twitches will be made in the installation phase to level up the quality: “Under GreenSet’s guidance, our cushioned acrylic surface will remain the same, but with a very detailed and intensive installation process designed to achieve the highest quality playing surface at each of the venues. It’s no secret we put the players first in all our planning, and we know how important it is to them that no matter where in Australia they play, they have a great experience on the court. We look forward to working with Javier and GreenSet to achieve this.”

Javier Sanchez Vicario promises high standards for the 2020 Australian summer of tennis: “On behalf of all of us at GreenSet we are excited to be working with Tennis Australia to create a high-quality court surface for the Australian Open and events across the country over the coming years. Our team is looking forward to delivering an incredible standard of court surface across all the courts and venues in each state. For me, it will be wonderful to return to the courts of Melbourne Park, a place where my family and I have amazing tennis memories.”

The tournaments that will suffer changes include Australian Open, ATP Cup in Brisbane, Perth, Sydney, the new ATP/WTA tournament in Adelaide, Brisbane International and Hobart International.
