Federer: 'Djokovic, Nadal and I being healthy made it harder for Next Gen'

Roger Federer commented on the reasons why the younger players are still struggling why the older ones are dominating.

The Basel native said: "Now that Novak, Rafa and I are healthy again, Andy [Murray] also coming back again, it has just made it much harder for young guys to come through. They are knocking on the door big time now so I think that’s very encouraging for those who want to see somebody else win. I think also Novak’s domination and Rafa’s domination are also not normal for a game of tennis."

Federer added: “We know how close the margins are if you win 55 or 60 percent of the points in a match you are dominating. It’s that close. I think there is going to be chances moving forward but it is not surprising with the type of tennis they have been playing in recent years. Stan [Wawrinka] coming up, he was very strong when he won that. It seems like the same guys are the favorites this time around.”

Meanwhile, Nadal spoke about his history in the US Open: "The best match that I probably have the best memory of in 2013 final. It was such an important victory for me after a long injury in 2012. To be able to win a Grand Slam here on hard again was so special to me."

Federer will open his run against Nagal, while Nadal starts against John Millman.
