Milos Raonic will focus on healing: withdraws from 2019 U.S. Open

"As you know I've been dealing with a painful condition in my left wrist..."Milos Raonic has gave the reason for bowing out of the 2017 U.S. Open. Situations have unfortunately repeated themselves as Raonic withdrew from this year's U.S. Open. It's not the wrist now, but his ailing glute that has forced the Candian to give the last slam of the year a miss. Raonic has had an injury-filled season and hasn't been on the court competitively since he retired from the second round of the Rogers Cup in his home country. The opponent was his Canadian comrade Felix Auger-Aliassime. Raonic was disgusted for his injury pull out saying that "(The) last 30 minutes of that match, just because of the situation we're playing in...was probably the least enjoyable 30 minutes I've spent on a tennis court." It was a back injury as he had to walk off very emotional leaving his fans and the tennis community also devastated. He had lost the first set to Auger-Aliassime and had gotten treatment in the middle of the second set, but speaking to a doctor and the painful condition he had to turn over the match and tournament to his teenage compatriot. He has only played in 11 tournaments this year because of back and knee ailments.

It's just a terrible coincidence that the U.S. Open slam has been one of few that has been affected repeatedly but his lucky loser, Poland's Kamil Majchrzak, who lost in the qualifying will step in Raonic's place hopeful to go as deep as possible making a positive out of such negative news for the 21st seeded Canadian. It was just two months ago in Stuttgart that he also had to withdraw from his Auger-Aliassime again in the semifinal round due to an agonizing back ailment. He was suffering even in his first round there but pushed himself after treatment to go as deep as the semifinal berth. He had said sadly on his social media that "It's hard for me to accept this situation but it is how it is." Raonic has had such hope to doing well there saying about Auger-Aliassime that "He's been playing well these first six months. Hopefully, I can have a chance to find the solution to the Felix problem." It was in January, the start of the season that Raonic had recurring knee problems and emphasized that he didn't want to go with knee surgery just yet.

Another U.S. Open missed for the Canadian but better safe than sorry. The fans and the tennis community hope that he can get therapy, rest and heal well again to be a viable and entertaining opponent on any court, any surface and any tournament again.
