Daniil Medvedev:'As a junior I was banned for five months for my behaviour'
Daniil Medvedev believes that being mentally solid is the key for him. The Moscow native said: "It's a big effort for me, because I'm not the calmest guy in the world. I had some stories already in my career, especially when I was a kid. Let's say when I was playing juniors, I was always missing like one month, because you get penalty points for code violations. If you get 10, you miss one month of tournaments. I think I missed like five months like this. I was just insane on the court. So I'm improving, and I'm proud of myself to stay calm. I hope to be better and better mentally. wanted more consistency. That was something that was missing from your tennis last year. You have been consistent with seven matches in a row."
On the different perspective he has now that he has cracked the top four rankings, Medvedev concluded: "My priorities changed a long time ago. Now it's about having perseverance in training, winning every match. After all, if you do not win the first round, you will not reach the final. So I think about how to win every specific point. If I have this mentality, improving turns easier. And so I can raise on the rankings. For around two years I played Futures, then Challenger qualies for a season, then I started winning Challengers, ATP Tour matches and I cracked the top 100 rankings. I needed to have this experience."
