Davis Cup organizer speaks about Federer, Zverev playing exhos in November
Speaking with Tennis World USA, Davis Cup organizer Galo Blanco answered a question about Roger Federer playing exhibition matches with Juan Martin del Potro and Alexander Zverev during the same week as the Davis Cup in Madrid. Blanco said: "We cannot do anything about it. Personally, I would never play an exhibition during Davis Cup like they will. But this is something you have to ask them. Because for me representing my country, in a competition that helps the younger players and the general development of tennis, would be the better option. Between the two things, I would play the Davis Cup, to be honest."
On Gerard Pique's role in the Davis Cup, Blanco added: "He is Kosmos' president and it's important that he is very involved. We are trying to make the Davis Cup get back where it is, where it deserves too also through his help."
On Nadal, Blanco added: "Rafa never surprised me. His values, his work ethic, his mentality, they do not surprise me. He works for it. If he is lucky with injuries and his body allows him to, he will definitely have chances to overcome the two guys."
On the Laver Cup founded by Federer, Blanco added: "It's clear that it thanks to Roger that this event got introduced on the ATP Tour. He has a lot of power. It's an exhibition. It's good for tennis but it takes place in the same week as two ATP events. As a show and fans experience, it's great. But it's not fair for the other events."
The Davis Cup finals will be played from 18th to 24th November.
