Insider speaks about Zverev joining Roger Federer's management company
The Marseille Open Tournament Director Jean-Francois Caujolle spoke about next year's field. Caujolle hopes to add some quality new players to the event that takes place in February 2020. "I did not get in touch with Berrettini but I am in talks with Tsitsipas. I am confident that Stefanos will play. Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Goffin, Shapovalov, Khachanov, Auger-Aliassime should make up a great field," said Caujolle who had some time ago, complained that Alexander Zverev's agent Patricio Apey was asking for a big amount of appearance fee to make the German compete in Marseille. Asked if things could change now that Team 8 management company represents Zverev, Caujolle replied: "I do not know. Patricio asked for a lot of money all the time, he pushes very hard for his players. Tony will not manage Alex in a direct way but one of his team guys. The amount of fee can be different depending on the ages. With Team8 management, it can be the same fee but not a higher one."
Asked why he quit as the Paris Masters' Tournament Director back in 2011, Caujolle replied: "I worked closely with the French Federation and after five years we decided to stop the co-operation. Guy Forget replaced me. At one time I was the Tournament Director in Marseille, Nice and Paris."
Asked if Stan Wawrinka will play next year in Marseille, Caujolle replied: "I do not think so. He would have asked me earlier. I know Stan and his agent closely and I know he only plays in Rotterdam. A couple of years ago we were open to negotiating with him if he wanted to play in Lyon. But we did not want to compete with Geneva who is our friend and it's right that the Swiss tournament becomes a priority for Stan. He had some issues with the Geneva Open tournament director."
