Vienna may host Laver Cup in the future, says Straka

The Erste Bank Open Tournament Director Herwig Straka revealed that the Laver Cup could take place in Vienna one day. The Stadthalle venue that hosts the ATP 500 event will soon be re-built within 2024. "Why not. I do not want to deny it," Straka said to Die Presse, who said that Vienna was already on the run to host this event in 2017. "There were many discussions, but in the end it failed because of the stadium capacity."

The venue hosts 9,000 people and the new arena will be able to welcome 15,000 people, which means Vienna could host a Masters 1000 one day. "At the moment we are not thinking about a 1,000, but if you build a stadium like this, you should not forget it."

Meanwhile, Francis Roig, Nadal's coach, was asked if coaching a legend like Nadal on the ATP Tour at the highest level is stressful, He replied: "I am lucky and I like it. I was lucky for being with Rafa, one of the best players ever, for 15 years. I was blessed. There are times where you feel more pressure. That's part of the game."

Asked how he sees this event ahead of the future, Henri Leconte replied: "Laver Cup will become even crazier because it can go anywhere. That's the only event that reunites all the players over three days and not more than one week or two. It's a fast, exciting and different format. Apart from some Grand Slams and Laver Cup, that was attended by 17,000 fans a day over three days, there are not many people coming to see matches. We see it in France. We lose some younger guys because it's a long, complicated and busy sport."
