Zverev: 'Laver Cup with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal was amazing'
Speaking to ATP in Beijing Alexander Zverev looked back to winning the Laver Cup for the third year in a row. The German player enjoyed being in the same team as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal's. "Laver Cup was a lot of fun, clinching the win for Team Europe was amazing, what a great atmosphere and crowd", recognized the 22-year-old Hamburg native.
On his preparation heading into the China Open in Beijing, Zverev added: "I came here early to give myself the best chance of doing well here. I have not done that well so far here, I only reached one semifinal in 2017, I hope I can improve, we will see how it goes."
Zverev aims to reach the ATP Finals in London. He is 11th on the Race. "It's on the back of my mind. I still want to qualify and give myself a chance to defend the title. We will see how it goes, the next weeks will be important."
On the weather condition in Beijing, he concluded: "It's more hot than the last years. The last few years it has been cooler. But I like the conditions, it's quicker and it fits me very well. My first round opponent Francis Tiafoe, I am expecting a very tough match, we had a battle at the US Open, five sets, I expect a lot of rallies."
Zverev lost to Nick Kyrgios in the 2017 semis in Beijing. The Australian would then lose against Rafael Nadal in a straight-set championship clash. He is one of the biggest stars headlining the field in the Chinese event.
