Rafael Nadal speaks about possibly playing Tokyo Olympics in 2020
Rafael Nadal confirmed he intends to play the Olympic Games in Tokyo next year, which come barely two weeks after Wimbledon ends. The world No. 2 usually takes a break during that time of the season but in 2020, if he is healthy, his summer schedule will be different. "I always wanted to play the Olympic Games. I always live them in a very special way, with an intensity and an excitement that are very difficult to explain. I would love to go to Tokyo. Hopefully the body allows me to do it", said Nadal, who also spoke about the tournament history: "The '92 Olympic Games were a great success for our country, a very important match point. We lived things that years after seemed to be impossible and unthinkable. As a fan, because first of all, even if I am a sportsman, I am a big fan of sports in general and I am lucky because I keep enjoying all the milestones."
On his mentality, Nadal added: "I always go day by day. I am convinced that from day by day it's where you start achieving things that then are appreciated by people. I almost never lose this perspective. I am now trying to recover from a little hand injury. I am starting to practice, less by less, with excitement, to end the year as well as possible. That's what I think about. Then we will think about the start of the next year. Day by day. I did not imagine to be at 33 years where I am. I do not set limits or deadlines. I am very safisfied for how I kept being excited despite all my issues. I needed to fix training depending on the problems that I had, with people who were good enough to be able to do it. I also have a big ability to improve and to accept the change, which is the key."
