Rafael Nadal v Daniil Medvedev US Open final was like a boxing match -Coach

In an interview to Cadena Ser Rafael Nadal's coach Carlos Moya looked back to the Spanish player's US Open final win over Daniil Medvedev. Moya said: "During the match you try to support because you cannot say anything with the coaching rule. You try to make him see that the opponent is tired. It was tense moments, when he was so close to win, in such an important match for Rafa that suddenly got balanced. You try to make him deal mentally. It was an unbelievable mental battle. It was like a boxing match where they fight each other all the time and they keep and keep doing. You should give credit to Rafa for being tough in those moments, as well as his opponent was. It's one of the most emotional matches I ever saw in my life. Emotions and high quality. Two completely different styles. When the match ended, I congratulated him. He was so tired."

"Medvedev had an unbelievable summer", admitted Moya. "He was coming from three consecutive finals, a win in Cincinnati just before New York. It was tough, he argued with the crowd but he played a great tennis. We thought he was a bit tired but he was doing great both mentally and physically. When it looked like the match was almost closed, in the third set he came back."

We will see if Nadal will play in Shanghai next week.
