Roger Federer should not be blamed for playing exhibitions, says Rusedski

In an interview to Express the former world No. 4 Greg Rusedski spoke about Roger Federer playing several exhibition matches in South America and China in the next weeks and months and skipping the ATP Cup in Australia. Rusedski said: "Roger is one of those unique individuals that can get off an aeroplane and play. It is unbelievable when he is playing these exhibition matches that the standard is still exceptional. It is something he has always wanted to do, it broadens our game to a global audience in South America. They love him down there, they love him globally and I think it is great for the game. If he wants to do these exhibitions, Roger can do whatever the heck he likes. He's a legend and deserves to anything he wants. He's a great ambassador for the game so the longer he plays exhibitions, slams, whatever he wants to do, Roger can do because he's owned it as the legend that he is."

Rusedski also spoke about Andy Murray winning the Antwerp's European Open: "I've been pleasantly surprised. I thought it would be much more difficult for him, I thought it would take a little bit longer, but he's played very, very well. The question mark is still how much can his body take week in, week out. There's still a long road back. He's played two matches back-to-back, but can he play three, four, five days in a row? It's too hard to predict. I think we'll know more when he plays the Australian Open and a three-out-of-five-set match. It's not his mentality or his tennis, it's what the body will allow him to do. But the signs are very positive."
