Garbine Muguruza: Conchita Martinez Understands Me

Former World No. 1 Garbine Muguruza says she hopes adding Conchita Martinez back to her coaching team will help her come back to her championship-winning form. In an interview to Marca, the former French Open and Wimbledon champion Muguruza says, "Conchita understands me because she has been in our situation many times. She understands us more than any other coach. She has been in the finals, has been a player. She is a very calm person and I have a lot of understanding with her and that is important when working everyday training, which is what people do not see."

The Spaniard, who is ranked No. 35 in the world, says she feels she does have it in her to win a Grand Slam again. "I always feel prepared. There will be times when you play better or worse, but it is always my goal. When you have felt those emotions you always want to be there again. I am sure that I can get it although I know it is the most difficult thing there is."

During the off-season, Muguruza also spoke about climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, "It was important to me because I was looking for a feeling of adrenaline, a feeling of adventure. And it has been a much harder experience than I thought because I don't know anything about the mountains. But I had a great time."

Finally, on the possibility of playing mixed doubles with Rafael Nadal at the Olympics next year, Muguruza says, "I am excited about the possibility of playing with him, but I still haven't thought about it because I haven't put myself into Games mode. The Olympics is the most special thing for athletes because they are every four years and we are all gathered in the same place."
