Ivanisevic headlines struggles with Berdych, Coric, Raonic, praises Djokovic
In a press conference in Zagreb, Croatia, former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic said he is feeling comfortable coaching Novak Djokovic. Ivanisevic previously worked with Marin Cilic, Tomas Berdych and Milos Raonic. Analyzing the several experiences, he said: "With Cilic, the most important thing was to improve his serve because a 1.98 meters tall player should serve better. When Federer once said that nobody was so fast against him like Marin was, it was a big (achievement) for me. I worked with Berdych when he was not at the peak of his career and anything I told him, he was answering that he could not do it. The most complicated (player) was Raonic. You could not communicate with him. Like a wall, you would never know if he could hear. He needed a mental coach rather than a coach."
With Djokovic, it's a different story. "It helps that we have a similar mentality and that we speak the same language. It's not always easy to speak English. He is a perfectionist, he always wants to talk, looks for advice, wants to make steps forward."
He recently played at the Royal Albert Hall in London on the Champions Tour. "I was beaten by David Ferrer, Marcos Baghdatis and Tommy Haas, but I love it. It's a pleasure to face Ferrer, like if I was playing PlayStation. Every ball gets back."
In an interview with Leggo, former Wimbledon junior winner Diego Nargiso spoke highly of the 18-year-old Jannik Sinner. Nargiso said: "If I were Sinner I would be inspired by Novak Djokovic for his gamestyle and attitude. In the past, there was also Bjorn Borg who was instead playing more aggressive tennis. But Sinner can become a top player and he needs to be inspired by the top guys. The sea he needs to go through is still too big but he is a great hard worker."
