Judy Murray Wants to Make Tennis as Engaging and Fun as Possible
Tennis - Britain's Judy Murray says she wants to continue to showcase tennis, in an interview to Sky News, after receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her services towards the sport.
Speaking to Sky News, Judy Murray recounts how she started off in the sport of tennis. Judy says she started off as a volunteer in her local tennis club in Dunblane when her sons, Andy and Jamie Murray, were just toddlers and did not start off as a coach, adding that she soon discovered that she loved teaching the sport and sharing it with others. Judy continues that it "snowballed from there over 30 years and I want to continue to showcasing tennis', realizing that tennis is competing with many other options for the attention of kids, teens and adults so she would like to make the sport fun, stimulating and engaging.
Murray adds that coaches are often the first impressions in any sport and so she has gone way back to the grassroots and she now focuses on training the trainer and teaching the teacher programs and tries to make the entry point of any sport as fun and engaging as possible.
The 60-year-old Murray is also a former British Fed Cup captain besides being the primary coach of sons Andy and Jamie when they were growing up. Andy has gone on to become World No. 1 in singles while Jamie has been World No. 1 in doubles - both being multiple Grand Slam champions in singles & doubles respectively.
