Organizers Promise Spectacular Wozniacki Farewell in Denmark
The tickets for the Caroline Wozniacki farewell match against Serena Williams, titled 'The Final One' at the Royal Arena at Amager in Denmark on May 18 have gone on sale and the event organizers promise that the event would be worth waiting for.
Speaking to BT, F Sports Group's director Mads H. Frederiksen says, “The event will cost millions. But hopefully, it's also worth it. Caroline deserves this tribute. She has been number one in the world rankings and won a grand slam tournament. Against this background, she is one of the Danish sports' greatest athletes ever. So, of course, she deserves a big tribute. I can't say much about the details of the event yet. But I guarantee that there will also be an interesting pre-match. The agreements on this I hope to have in place over a week's time. It will be an evening full of surprises. Many of these Caroline will not be informed in advance."
Tickets for The Final One went on sale via Ticketmaster on Tuesday morning and the event will be broadcast on TV 2. Tickets would cost between 375 and 875 kroner and if all the tickets sell out, the revenue would be around 7 million kroner.
Wozniacki has taken part in similar matches in Denmark earlier as well. In 2002, she was part of the pre-match between Venus Williams and Daniela Hantuchova while in 2015, she played Serena at an exhibition event titled 'Champions Battle."
Frederiksen, who reveals that he had known about Wozniacki's retirement plans for some time now, says, "Lots of spectators have attended these events. In the Royal Arena, there is room for 11,500. It's no secret that we expect to sell all the tickets on offer, and so I think we've set some prices where everyone can join."
