Roger Federer finishes fifth on Forbes list, behind Mayweather, Ronaldo..
Like many other sites and organizations, Forbes looked back on the previous decade and released the list with the highest-paid athletes in the last ten years. Ten athletes had been able to earn at least $400M and Roger Federer is among them, despite being the third-best player of the previous decade behind Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Forbes counted prize money, salaries, bonuses, endorsements, appearance fees and licensing income and Roger was up there with the best, finishing fifth with $640M on his tally! The Swiss had earned a lot through the prize money but it was the endorsements that brought him to this list, achieving $93.4M in 2019 alone, with $86M of those coming off the court. Floyd Mayweather tops the list with the mind-blowing #915M, followed by Cristiano Ronaldo $800M, Lionel Messi $750M, LeBron James $680M, Roger Federer $640M, Tiger Woods $615M, Phil Mickelson $480M, Manny Pacquiao $435M, Kevin Durant $425M and Lewis Hamilton $400M.
In the decade behind us, Federer was among the best players in the world despite turning 29 in 2010, securing 46 weeks as world no. 1, more than 200 in the top-2 and 400 in the top-3! The Swiss star has failed to finish as the year-end no. 1 player after 2009 but was still there to challenge Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, lifting two ATP Finals titles, five Majors, 12 Masters 1000 crowns and 41 ATP trophies overall. At the age of 38, Roger wrapped up another rock-solid season in 2019, winning four titles and becoming the second player in the Open era with at least 100 ATP trophies under his belt. Also, he claimed the 28th Masters 1000 crown in Miami and had the opportunity to grab another title at Wimbledon, wasting two match points in the final against Novak Djokovic.
