Tim Henman: Andy Murray's Story Transcends Tennis and Sport

Tennis - Former World No. 4 Tim Henman says Andy Murray's comeback to professional tennis after hip surgery is inspiring and transcends tennis and sport.

Speaking to The Australian, Henman says, "For me, I know his hips have troubled him for some time. I think his story really transcends tennis and sport. I know enough people who have had new hips who say, ‘It has transformed my life’ and that is a miracle of medicine. But this is a 32-year-old who still wants to play professional sport. That is something that is not really done. Obviously we have seen it with Bob Bryan, but he is 40 and has only half the court to cover. I think that is where it is inspirational beyond tennis. It is an unbelievable story.”

Henman, who was the British number one player for a long time during his career, says he practiced with Murray at Wimbledon and believes he will be a threat at the Grand Slams as he becomes stronger.

"(During Wimbledon) there was just this unbelievable desire in him to get back out there. He was talking about his rehabilitation and training and if you look at his leg, the one he had surgery on, it is still not as developed as his other side. His quad is smaller. His glute is smaller. If he can continue to develop and get stronger, his movement will get better and better. He has already won a tour event on one and two-thirds of a leg, so if he can keep getting stronger, who knows?”
