Daniil Medvedev: I don't like to play five sets

No. 4 seed Daniil Medvedev was straight honest after falling short to Stan Wawrinka at Melbourne Park as he praised the Swiss for the performance he put up against him.

Medvedev, ranked at No. 4 in the world, was edged out by No. 15 seed Stan Wawrinka 6-2 2-6 4-6 7-6 (2) 6-2 in their Australian Open round-of-16 clash.

Rising star Medvedev entered the match as the favorite but three-time Grand Slam champion Wawrinka delivered a vintage performance to set up a quarterfinal against Alexander Zverev.

"After a loss I'm not disappointed too much. Here I'm like I did my best. Of course, I could do some shots better. But he played a great match. I wish him only luck for the rest of the tournament," Medvedev told reporters after the match, per Ravi Ubha.

The 23-year-old Russian's struggles in five-set Grand Slam matches continue as he is now 0-6.

"The more five-set matches you play, the more experience you gain, even if you lose them... Me, I don't like to play five sets. I get tired. Even though I'm there, I want to win it. At this moment, didn't win one in my life. We'll try better next time," Medvedev said.
