Roger Federer will defend his Miami Open title in 2020 | Confirmed
Reigning champion Roger Federer will participate at the 2020 edition of the Miami Open — taking place between the 23rd of March and the 5th of April —, although the Swiss legend tries to save his powers for the four Grand Slams, the Olympics and the Laver Cup.
The officialities of the Miami Open have announced Federer’s participation on their Twitter account. And they did so in a dashing manner.
“Witness @RogerFederer. Witness greatness. Witness live. Federer confirms he’ll return to defend his title. You’ll want to be here for this.”
When Roger Federer won at Miami in 2019, he claimed his 101st title of his impressive career and his 4th Miami triumph. He beat the likes of Medvedev, Anderson and Shapovalov before winning the final against the big John Isner.
Miami Open is the tournament that marks the end of the hard court season and the start of the clay court season. Considering that Federer will have to cram a lot of important events in his 2020 schedule, we shall see him less often after Miami. As Federer himself suggested in a CNN interview, he needs a break before he jumps into the ‘rush-months’ of this tennis season.
"I probably won't play much before that. Because I need some time away from it, some time with the family, we need a vacation, a break.
And especially if I am playing the Olympics. So I am playing the French, Halle, Wimbledon, Olympics, maybe Cincinnati and the US Open"
However, we should expect to see Roger playing at least one warm-up tournament before each of the Grand Slams because that was his routine for years.
