ATP Marseille - DRAW: Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas lead the field
The 28th edition of the Open 13 Provence in Marseille takes place at the Palais des sports de Marseille next week, starting back in 1993. Boris Becker, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Robin Soderling, Juan Martin del Potro and Nick Kyrgios have all won the title here and it will be interesting to see who will claim the crown in 2020, with rock-solid draw fighting for the trophy. The US Open finalist Daniil Medvedev leads the pack, seeking the first title of the season that hasn't been that good for him so far. Daniil will face the youngest player in the top-100 Jannik Sinner in the second round, with the winner of that one playing against former champions Gilles Simon, Karen Khachanov or Aljaz Bedene in the quarters.
The last year's semi-finalist David Goffin and Rotterdam finalist Felix Auger-Aliassime are the seeded players in the second quarter, having to beat Mikhail Kukushkin, Pierre-Hugues Herbert, Stefano Travaglia or qualifiers en route to a potential quarter-final duel. The young Canadian is through to his fourth ATP final in Rotterdam, seeking the first title and the best possible boost ahead of Marseille. Benoit Paire and Denis Shapovalov lead the third quarter, facing Gregoire Barrere, Marton Fucsovics, Alexander Bublik, Marin Cilic and Filip Krajinovic in the battle for the place in the semi-final.
Shapovalov is yet to find his best tennis in 2020 and this could be a chance for him to improve that and seek the title. The defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas lost early in Rotterdam and will try to lift another Marseille trophy if he beats Richard Gasquet or Mikael Ymer in round two and then Hubert Hurkacz or Vasek Pospisil who are supposed to meet in the second round.
