Serbia's Natalija Kostic Gets Engaged to Boyfriend during WTA Thailand Open
Serbian tennis player Natalija Kostic got the perfect Valentine's Day gift this week - a proposal from her long-time boyfriend, according to the WTA wwebsite.
Kostic, who made her main draw debut on the WTA Tour, was beaten in the first round by fourth seeded Zheng Saisai on Monday. However, the trip to Hua Hin was not wasted as her long-time boyfriend Nikola Stevanovic proposed to her while they were there.
Speaking to the WTA Tour, Kostic commented, “It was a very big surprise, even after nine years together. I was shocked, honestly, but he really had the help of some friends here and the tournament. It was perfect. He had the help of a young couple, [also newly-married World No.135] Varvara Flink and her husband. They’ve been talking, and they were the ones who really helped him to make that step."
The tournament organisers have gifted them a two-night stay at the beach-side luxury Intercontinental Resort Hua Hin to celebrate their engagement.
Kostic said that the couple would like to have a beach wedding and may even consider having the same at Hua Hin. "It will take time, but we think [the wedding] will probably be next year. We’d like to have it near the beach, so you never know, this is a good place!"
The 25 year old Kostic has won 13 singles titles on the ITF circuit, the most recent one being the ITF W25 Goyang event in 2019.
