A medic's dream to see Roger Federer at Olympics endangered by coronavirus
Chiropractor Janice Drover, freshly accepted into Canada’s medical staff for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is eager to finally be able to see Olympic athletes like Roger Federer and Bianca Andreescu into action, even though the coronavirus crisis threatens the start of the competition.
"Right now we're just keeping our fingers crossed and washing our hands and hoping we can go," Drover told The St. John's Morning Show.
Being in the medical staff at the Olympic Games has been one of Drover’s dreams for 20 years. She has helped athletes during the Commonwealth, Pan-American Games and the Canada Games, but she never had the occasion to help Olympians during the Games that descend from ancient times.
Fortunately for Janice, the coronavirus hasn’t provoked big enough damage to make the officials decide against organizing the Olympics in Tokyo. For now, the IOC, which has no Plan B, is encouraging athletes to keep training “with great confidence and full steam”, writes The Boston Globe.
With the above being said, Janice Drover might finally see her dream come true. Obviously, she is excited about all the festivities that the Olympic Games imply, but she mentioned a couple of athletes she wants to see.
"We may have Roger Federer there. We may have Bianca Andreescu from Canada. We have a lot of very hard-working international athletes, and just being part of that, part of that buzz is incredible." Drover said.
However, as Roger Federer is still out of the tour due to a knee surgery he had to undergo, Janice would want to hold her fingers crossed for the Swiss Maestro as well. Luckily, Federer closed his knee injury announcement with some encouraging words: “See you on the grass!”
