French Tennis Federation Appoints HBS as Host Broadcaster for French Open

The French Tennis Federation (FFT) has appointed HBS, the Infront-owned sports broadcast production company, as its host broadcaster for the French Open from 2021 to 2023, according to inside Sport.

The broadcast rights were earned via a tender process which was launched last December and is part of the FFT’s moves to take the production activities in house.

The FFT commented, “From 2021 onwards the FFT will cherish the opportunity to provide TV coverage of the tournament in its entirety for all 150 broadcasters in France and around the world. In doing so, the FFT aims to meet the expectations and demands for quality for the world’s broadcasters by producing content tailored to their needs and to those of viewers. The FFT is also looking to continue innovating.”

HBS has been producing the Fifa World Cup since 2002. Currently, the French Open broadcast is handled by France Télévisions, the French public broadcaster and the FFT has also worked with Input Media, the UK-based production firm since 2008.

The new contract will be of the same period as the French Open's new domestic broadcast rights - Online streaming company Amazon has picked up a package of rights from 2021 to 2023 while France Télévisions picked up the first rights package.

The French Open 2020 will be held from Sunday 24th May to Sunday 7th June, both days inclusive. The tournament was won by Spain's Rafael Nadal last year on the men' side and Australia's Ash Barty, on the women's side.
