Naomi Cavaday on Roger Federer's Comeback: I’m sure he is going to be very very good

Retired British tennis player Naomi Cavaday says it would be very difficult for Swiss legend Roger Federer to get back to his usual level after his latest knee surgery.

38 year old Federer announced last month that he had undergone surgery on his right knee and will only be back for the grass court season. The 38 year old has played only one tournament in 2020 - reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open where he went down to World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

As of now, the 20 time Grand Slam champion Federer is expected to be back for the Noventi Open in Halle, which he has won 10 times and then Wimbledon, which he has won 9 times.

Speaking in Acapulco after Federer's rival Rafael Nadal won his 85th career title at the Mexican Open, Cavaday commented, "He is very good at being able to pick up his level quickly,. But that has become more difficult as he has got older. Those periods of times out have become a little bit longer because he’s been playing a reduced schedule for quite a long time. He’s chosen to miss the clay-court on a few occasions so this one is a bit more of a forced break. But I think he will come back just fine, maybe not his absolute sharpest but that would be a bit ridiculous. I’m sure he is going to be very very good.”

In the latest world rankings, Federer has dropped to No. 4 behind Austria's Dominic Thiem, who has climbed to No. 3. Serbia's Novak Djokovic remains at No. 1 while Spain's Rafael Nadal remains at No. 2 in the world rankings.

30 year old Cavaday retired in April 2011 to take up a coaching role with the Lawn Tennis Association. Her career high ranking was No. 174, achieved in May 2010. She won three ITF singles titles and two ITF doubles titles during her career. She has also been working as a commentator since her retirement.
