Family of Four in the City of Rugby Plays Marathon Match to Raise Funds for NHS

A family in the city of Rugby played a ten hour marathon tennis match in order to raise funds to support the NHS.

The McCollins family played tennis for ten hours on their driveway, raising more than £600 for NHS charities.

According to The Solihull Observer, eight-year-old Ruan wanted to do more to support hospital staff across the country who are working very hard during the current global health crisis.

He pitched the idea to his parents Rachel and Neil and sister Grace. The decided to extend thier daily games of tennis while at the same time and raise money as well.

The family started the match at 9 am local time and finished at 7 pm - and took turns to stop for breaks.

Rachel commented, “Ruan wanted to do more to raise money for NHS staff who are tirelessly working to help protect the country from Covid19. During lockdown he has loved playing tennis on the driveway and so we decided that this would be a great way to have fun and raise money at the same time.”

The family originally had the idea of raising £50 but people donated a lot more money than their original target - with so far more than £600 being raised.

Rachel added: “Thank you so much to everyone for their support. We are overwhelmed by the response to our challenge.”
