John Millman proposes interstate teams competition in Australia

Australian world No. 43 John Millman has proposed the creation of an interstate teams competition in Australia. 

The ATP and WTA have suspended the tours until at least July 13 due to the coronavirus outbreak. 

If Australia recovers before the season is ready to resume, Millman says they should take the opportunity and make something interesting out of it.

"If Australia recovers before the ATP Tour is ready to kick off again I think we have a unique opportunity in our sport to create domestic interest in tennis again. Instead of having your run of the million money tournaments -- imagine something completely different," Millman posted on his Twitter account. 

"How about an interstate teams competition? Teams would be mixed and compromised of two legend players (one male and one female), six current players (three males and three females), two junior players (one male and one female). 

"Singles, doubles and mixed doubles would be played. Perhaps a different type of scoring system. 

"Players get contracts (guaranteed money) that will help some getting them financially get back on the Tour and the public get a different format of team tennis -- watching the past, present and future players competing."
