Roger Federer will not chase Laver Cup title this year. Find out why

The fourth edition of the Laver Cup should have gathered the world's leading players in Boston between September 25-27, with Team Europe seeking the fourth title under the guidance of the founder and the first confirmed player so far, Roger Federer. Still, due to a coronavirus that has taken many lives throughout the world, the Laver Cup had to be postponed for 2021, with the organizers scheduling the next event between September 24-26, also in Boston. This was probably the best possible and only move in the plagued season that will hardly see some tennis by the end of the year, with many tournaments giving their best to find the right schedule if the pandemic goes down by September or October. With the current situation in the USA, it was impossible to bring everything that Laver Cup has to offer to the crowd and tennis lovers from Boston and all over the States will have to wait until September 2021 to see Roger Federer and other stars in action.

Back in September, Team Europe prevailed against Team World in the deciding match in Geneva to keep the beautiful trophy in their cabinet for the third straight year and make a proper celebration out of it. After the opening two encounters of the third and final day, Team World had the edge over their rivals and it was Federer who had no room for errors versus John Isner if he wanted to keep Team Europe alive, prevailing in two close sets to reduce the deficit and set all eyes on the last encounter between Alexander Zverev and Milos Raonic. Of course, it had to go down to the wire and the German secured the victory in the match tie break to be the one who secured the title for Team Europe for the second time in a row, wrapping up an incredible event in the most energetic style.

Laver Cup CEO Steve Zacks reiterated: "After careful consideration, we all agreed that to provide the Laver Cup experience that everyone has come to love and expect, moving the event to September 2021 was the only option."

Amy Latimer, President of TD Garden, commented: "While obviously disappointed that given the circumstances we have to wait another year until world-class tennis comes to TD Garden, we are pleased that we will be able to host the Laver Cup in 2021 and deliver the event that the Boston community was so looking forward to. We will be working closely with the Laver Cup team to ensure the event exceeds expectations."
