Per report, Andy Murray could play National Championships if fit enough

Top British players are set to return to competitive action next month and former world No. 1 Andy Murray could make his first appearance this year if he is fit enough, reports Sportsmail. 

The tennis season has been suspended since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic and recently the ATP and WTA Tours are expected to be on hold until at least early-August. 

The Lawn Tennis Association -- the governing body of tennis in Great Britain -- is planning a series of six or seven tournaments for domestic players in different locations.

All the events are expected to be held behind the closed doors without fans but the LTA is still awaiting for the clear guidelines from the government.

The first tournament is expected to kick off in late June -- probably just before what would have been the start of The Championships -- which got called off on April 1. 

The hope is that the season will be able to resume in August, when the time comes for the American hard-court swing. 

The Lawn Tennis Association is making the necessary adjustments as its planning to stage the domestic competition on the hard surface. 

The British Tour is set to feature prize money and domestic players will be able to earn some money during the Tour suspension.

Murray's fellow Davis Cup teammates Jamie Murray, Dan Evans and Kyle Edmund are also expected to make an appearance during the upcoming British Tour. 

Jamie Murray, a former doubles world No. 1, had been planning for a while to stage an exhibition event in London just before Wimbledon and he could do so in the close collaboration with the Lawn Tennis Association. 

Evans, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 28 in the world, and 2018 Australian Open semifinalist Edmund are back in training. 

Meanwhile, top-ranked British female tennis player Johanna Konta is also expected to feature the domestic competition.

Andy Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, hasn't played since last year's Davis Cup Finals due to a pelvic injury.
